MidwifeInfo has a new look, some new features, and, in the months to come, some new content, but we remain committed to our original goals.
A look under "Midwifery" in your local yellow pages will make it obvious that midwives are licensed and credentialed (or not) in different ways, and have various letters after their names to indicate this.  The goal of this page is to help you make sense of this alphabet soup and understand the education/training/certification and standards behind midwifery credentials.

On June 4, the Dateline NBC television news program aired a segment on the death of a birthing woman at Sibley Memorial Hospital in Washington, DC. The story has made national news because it has brought to light the problem of infections contracted by hospital patients - and by otherwise healthy birthing women, in particular.
